THIS D1 MID-MAJOR PROGRAM DOESN'T REBUILD. IT RELOADS.
Most programs go through cycles. Big year, down year, rebuild, repeat.
UConn baseball doesn't do that.
Five straight Big East regular season championships. Ten NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Jim Penders. Thirty or more wins in 19 of his 22 seasons. A program record 50-win season in 2022. A Super Regional appearance in 2024.
And right now in 2026? The Huskies are 25-20 overall and 10-5 in the Big East, grinding through one of the toughest non-conference schedules in New England baseball. They opened the season against Arizona, Arizona State, and a loaded field at the MLB Desert Invitational. This isn't a program padding its record against weak opponents.

THE 2027 CLASS IS FILLING UP
These arms and that bat have already said yes to Storrs:
Everett Zarzicki, RHP
Mason Ellison, RHP
Dorian Fortes, RHP
James Wall, OF
Damian Budhai, RHP
Lucas Hodne, SS
Six players in. Spots going fast.
The 2028 class? Zero commits. This is the window. UConn doesn't hand out spots to families who wait and see. The athletes who move early are the ones who get recruited. The ones who wait find out the class is full.

129 YEARS OF HUSKY BASEBALL
UConn baseball has been around for 129 years, and the program under Jim Penders has been its best stretch in history.
The numbers are hard to argue with:
10 NCAA Tournament appearances under Penders. Three Super Regional appearances in 2011, 2022, and 2024. Conference titles 10 times.
The 2022 Huskies set a program and New England record with 50 wins, won the NCAA College Park Regional, and beat No. 2 Stanford in the Super Regional opener.
In 2023, UConn hit 44 wins for back-to-back 40-win seasons, the first time since 2010-2011.
Five straight Big East regular season titles from 2021 to 2025.
JIM PENDERS: THE COACH WHO NEVER LEFT
Jim Penders is in his 23rd season as UConn's head coach in 2026. He played here, coached here as an assistant, and has been the head coach since 2004. The Huskies hold the longest-tenured coaching staff in all of Division I baseball.
His overall record at UConn: 773-496-5. Five-time conference Coach of the Year. He knows this program's DNA because he helped build it. Recruits don't get a new staff every three years. They get stability, continuity, and a coach who has seen everything.
What that means for your athlete: the person recruiting them is the same person who will develop them for four years. No bait-and-switch. No staff turnover mid-career.
THE 2026 SEASON: FIGHTING THROUGH IT
Current record: 25-20 overall, 10-5 in the Big East.
This is a team that scheduled Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego State, and Boston College in the non-conference slate. When you play up, you take lumps. The Huskies caught fire with a 13-game winning streak at one point in recent memory, and the program has shown it can get hot when it matters. Big East play is still very much alive, with St. John's, Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Villanova still on the schedule. UConn has made a habit of turning conference play into postseason runs.
ELLIOT BALLPARK
On-campus, in Storrs. Intimate and loud when it needs to be. UConn plays 19 home games here each season, giving recruits significant home-field exposure in a Big East environment. The facility supports a program that's been to three Super Regionals.
THE PIPELINE
This is where it gets good.
George Springer was drafted 11th overall by the Houston Astros in 2011, the highest selection in UConn program history. He went on to win a World Series, earn All-Star nods in four different seasons, and was named 2017 World Series MVP. Under Penders, nine Huskies have reached the big leagues.
Other notable pros developed at UConn:
Matt Barnes, 1st round pick, Boston Red Sox (2011)
Anthony Kay, 1st round pick, New York Mets (2016)
Nick Ahmed, MLB veteran, Arizona Diamondbacks
Reggie Crawford, USA Collegiate National Team selection
In the 2011 MLB Draft alone, 10 UConn players were selected, a program record. The pipeline here is not a talking point. It's a track record.
WHAT THE STAFF IS LOOKING FOR
UConn recruits athletes who compete hard, stay coachable, and want to develop in a program that has consistently produced professionals, not just college ballplayers.

About Alex
Meet your college baseball recruiting specialist: Alex Swenson.
As a high school baseball player, I navigated the college recruiting process all on my own. Despite average statistics, I landed a spot on a Division-1 baseball team Jacksonville University, where I became a 3-time team captain. Post-college, I became a D1 coach, scout, and recruiter at Georgetown University and Ole Miss, where we won an SEC championship.
After experiencing the process as both recruit and recruiter, I’ve successfully dissected the best strategies to connect with college coaches and draw offers from them.
Receive professional direction from Alex himself until your son commits to his desired school. A step-by-step action plan will be provided with strategic small-group coaching meetings every 2 weeks to ensure we are making progress. Included is a baseball networking platform that connects him to coaches, optimizes his exposure to scouts, alerts him to college camps and showcases, and MUCH MORE.
